Samsung to hand over $1.3 billion upfront to Qualcomm

Apparently according to an article over on unwired view, Samsung has announced a deal with Qualcomm to fork over some $1.3 billion for the privilege of using Qualcomm’s CDMA, WCDMA, and OFDMA patents for the next fifteen years.

Apparently the new Samsung, Qualcomm deal was signed “under most favourable conditions,� mainly due to Samsung being Qualcomm’s most important customer, and it is said that the $1.3 billion will be an upfront payment with additional royalties thereafter.

Telecoms Korea has said that Samsung‘s $1.3 billion accounts for roughly 80 percent of Qualcomm’s net income for 2009.
